Confidentiality Policy
Last updated · May 1, 2026
Therapy only works if you can speak freely. This policy explains exactly what stays inside the session room, how clinical notes are handled, and the narrow, legally-defined situations in which a psychologist may need to break confidentiality.
01The default: everything is confidential
Every word you share with your psychologist during an Innerly session is treated as confidential clinical information. This covers:
- What you say (audio).
- Your appearance and surroundings (video).
- Notes the psychologist makes during or after the session.
- Intake form answers, mood logs, and assessments you complete.
- The simple fact that you are a client.
Innerly does not record your sessions. Real-time audio and video flow encrypted between you and your psychologist, and are never stored on our servers.
02Who can see your information
- You and your psychologist: the only people with access to the full clinical record by default.
- Innerly staff: can view metadata such as booking time, payment status, and your account profile, but cannot read clinical notes or session content.
- Supervisors and peer consultants: your psychologist may discuss your case with a clinical supervisor or peer for quality assurance. Your identifying details are always anonymised first.
03The narrow exceptions (limits of confidentiality)
Indian law and clinical ethics require a psychologist to break confidentiality only in these specific situations:
- Imminent risk to your own life. If you describe a credible, immediate plan to end your life or cause serious self-harm, your psychologist may contact your nominated emergency contact or local crisis services to keep you safe.
- Imminent risk to someone else's life or safety, including identifiable threats of serious violence.
- Active abuse or neglect of a child (a person under 18) or a vulnerable adult, where mandatory reporting obligations apply under Indian law.
- A valid order from a court of competent jurisdiction compelling disclosure of specific records.
Wherever possible, your psychologist will tell you before breaking confidentiality, will share only the minimum information necessary, and will share it with the smallest number of people required.
04Clinical notes
Psychologists are encouraged to keep concise, factual notes that support continuity of care. Notes are stored encrypted at rest inside Innerly and are accessible only to the authoring psychologist.
You can request to view your notes at any time by writing to privacy@themindsathi.in. Your psychologist will share a copy within 14 days, in line with standard clinical practice.
05Recording, screenshots, and sharing
You may not record, screenshot, or rebroadcast any part of a session without the prior, written consent of your psychologist. This protects the psychologist's professional speech and reduces the risk of clinically harmful material ending up online.
The same rule applies the other way: your psychologist will not record or screenshot any part of the session, and is bound by professional ethics never to share your case publicly, even anonymously, on social media or in articles.
06Working with someone you know
If you and another current client of the same psychologist discover that you know each other (for example, you are siblings, colleagues, or partners), your psychologist will pause and discuss a clear plan: usually transferring one of you to another psychologist to avoid any conflict of interest. Your specific session content is never shared between the two of you.
07Couples, family, and minors
Couples sessions: the couple is the client. Anything shared in a joint session is considered shared between both partners. Your psychologist will set ground rules about individual disclosures at the start.
Minors (13 to 17): the parent or guardian holds the account, but the minor retains a developmentally appropriate level of privacy. The psychologist will discuss with the family which themes will, and will not, be shared with the parent.
08After the relationship ends
Confidentiality outlives the therapeutic relationship. Everything you discussed remains confidential after you stop seeing your psychologist, after you leave Innerly, and after your psychologist leaves Innerly. Standard clinical retention of 7 years applies to the underlying notes; see the Privacy Policy for full details.
09Reporting a breach
If you suspect a confidentiality breach by an Innerly psychologist or by Innerly staff, please write to our Grievance Officer at grievance@themindsathi.in. See the Grievance Redressal policy for our response timelines and escalation path.
